Razorblade Twins

Who is Adaora?

I am passion, destruction, intoxicating, mysterious, trouble, erotic, exotic, unstable, mischievous, a forbidden fruit, dark, addictive and like nothing you will find in this life or the next. I am a rarity.

You are the singer of Razorblade Twins, can you give a brief introduction to the band?

Razorblade Twins came into being shortly after my twin, Steven Razorblade, found me, and I him.  Our passions for all things demented, decadent, destructive and tortured brought us together along with our love for music. I love everything from emo-core, post-hardcore, screamo, new wave, metal, darkwave, electronica, ambient, and world.  He loves dark/death metal, electronica, hardcore and techno.  And our undying love for goth and industrial brought us closer.  Together, we pull from each other and combine our influences to create something that’s just fucking awesome.

How would you describe the music the Razorblade Twins?

It bleeds desire, destruction, rebellion, domination and passion. It bleeds what lies within us.  It bores into your skull and fucks with your head.  Some songs make you want to seek and destroy, others make you want to take and devour.

Who are your role models, who inspires you?

What inspires me……numerous things and numerous people.  In terms of things, everything from things that I have experienced in my life- the good and the negative. Mausoleums, endless darkness and cravings for what runs red. The shadowed places in my mind that have secrets and words to spill.  The touch, taste and feel of flesh.  Electrical tape and temptation.  In terms of those, they would be the beautiful undead, walkers of the night, candy-coated seraphims, and those that play with weapons.  I also get inspired by films,,,,mostly horror.

I know you like bands like “modulate” as well, most songs on the “Black Pills” ep are slow, why not make some up tempo  stomping songs as well, would you like to have some?

But of course.  “Black Pills” is our freshman effort.  Our first-born, if you will.  This is just a taste for people. Something to wet the tongue a bit.

The ep Black pills is now out for awhile, what can you tell about the making of it, are there things you would have done differently?

When we began working on the ep, it was basically a process of music first-words second.  I would either write while we were practicing, or I would get up at 3AM and start writing.  Sometimes I would stare off into space, and Steven would think something is wrong.  He’s pretty used to that now (laughs a little)! There were many versions of the songs that were done and lie on the cutting room floor.  Both of us are perfectionist.  It dwells within us to be.  If it is not right to me….it will not do. If I had to change anything, it would be little things such as less kick or more snare or longer track.  But to be honest, for our first effort, we are quite pleased.

Most of the lyrics are pretty long, is this done on purpose or do you have much to say? What are your lyrics about?

It is done on purpose, for I do have much to say.  We did not want to focus on just beats and noise.  Anyone could.  We want people to feel not only the sounds, but the words intertwined in them.  When I listen to music, I am always drawn to the words.  If there is a connection with that from the start, everything else falls into place.  The lyrics for this CD….within each song lies a story.  “New Dawn” is about a new uprising between the fallen (vampires, dark seraphim) and the pure (angels). The fallen take back what is theirs, for it is time for us to take over. “Waking Hour” and “Procession” is the aftermath of the battle and the evolution of the defeated to our side, who are now one the beautiful and powerful “fallen”.  My favorite song, “Consume” is a love story between the one of the fallen and a “pure” who is falling under her spells through seduction, and is willing and wanting to be taken.  Very powerful, sexual and dark.

What inspires you in writing lyrics?

Pain, hate, anger, passion, fear, violence, isolation, sexual tension, dementia, love, darkness, the sweetest things that many consider disturbing.  What they fail find the beauty in thanks to stupidity, clouded judgment and ignorance.  I am not alone in these emotions. So I put it on paper and share it with those like me.

You seem to be attracted to the darker side of life, what attracts you it?

Normalcy is boring.  I have been there, I have done that. The darker side is what fuels and molds me.  There are no apologies, no boundaries, no sense of not belonging.  There are many threatened by this.  It scares them.  I know what lies in the dark and embrace the beauty in all that it processes.  It is who I have been all along.

Everybody has dreams for the future, what is yours?

To one day, welcome a little one from my being to share in the pleasures that I have.  To be able to share my words and our music with the world for as long as I can.  I have so many that my head hurts thinking about them! (giggles)

If you could ask a fortune teller one question, what would you ask?

Will I be blessed with all that my heart desires?

What is next for razorblade twins?

We are working on our full-length album “A New Way to Love”.  And trust me, there will be much to feast on that will make you want to stomp, destroy, devour and ravage one another.
