Hey guys, thank you for doing this interview, how are you doing?
kain: We are doing great, thanks for interviewing us.
Jno: Yea thanks again for having us, unfortunately pat wasn’t able to make it.
Can you give a brief introduction to B.m.m.?
A brief introduction to B.m.m, Well we are an unsigned progressive electro-industrial band from Ann Arbor, Michigan USA
What is your musical background? Did you play in other bands prior to B.m.m.?
All three of us were in different metal bands prior to B.m.m, Yes. Actually Jayno and I (KaiN) were in a local band together in about 2004.
Jno: we’ve been in several different bands, but things never really felt right. I actually played drums for Mind altering substance and a local metal band called Cerebellum.
B.M.M. started in 2000 as a one man project of KaiN Kinetic but the first shows were not until 2007, what did you do in the first 7 years of B.m.m.’s existence?
Kain: In the first seven years of B.m.m I was writing music for parties as well as my own amusement. It was very experimental.
Jno: Ive known kain since 2001, I was actually a fan of BMM before kain even asked me to perform in the band.
How did your music evolve over the years?
KAIN: Our music has evolved alot through the years and continues to. It went from a chaotic techno type music to the industrial hybrid you hear today. The music industry doesnt stay the same, why should we. Just like anything else in nature adapt or die.
Jno: I think kain said it best.
How would you describe your music yourself?
KAIN: I describe our music as an audio representation of the duality of beauty and filth. The music its self is a tad bit of everything from hiphop to dubstep as well as metal and techno.
Can you explain the name B.M.M.? Why is the perfect bandname for you?
KAIN: I came up with the name when I started putting music on the internet, it stands for Bipolar Murder Musik.
BIPOLAR = not just in the medical sense but also the duality between beauty and filth, light and dark, good and evil. Which is where the
MURDER comes into play. My ever growing fascination with serial killers.
In the last few years the band has several line up changes, why was this and why is the current line up the best one for BMM? What is the chemistry between the 3 of you?
KAIN: Our current line up has great chemistry. The energy on stage with these guys is intense. Like our music there is a sort of duality between light and dark, beauty and filth. But it was a long road to get to this point. Keep in mind this band has and will constantly evolve. We are always experimenting new ideas. With each member that B.m.m has gone through has had an effect on how the music sounds.
Jno: we’ve gone through hell and back the past year and a half. Many line ups and many disasters. But right now, things are amazing!
Your music reminds me of the better Combichrist tracks, are they a source of influence for you?
KAIN :We have heard alot of how we sound familiar to Combichrist. Actually when I first heard their music I was surprised how much it sounded like what I was writing. I felt the same when I heard Hocico. My musical influences very greatly, The Prodigy's Liam Howlett majorly influenced my early creations. So has Aphex twin and Peter Gabriel.
How can people purchase your music and will there be a release sometime soon, when can people expect a full length album?
KAIN: Our music can be purchased at our shows and when the new EP comes out in late spring it will be available online.
Jno: Yea like kain said, all our music is online on either soundcloud or our facebook. As soon as we’re done with our EP it will be available on iTunes and other such websites along with in person at any show.
B.m.m. has already done several liveshows with other bands. How did you get all these liveshows because it’s hard for every band to get shows these days?
KAIN : We have played with alot of great artists in the short time B.m.m has been performing live. But thats because we will play almost anywhere anytime. And by doing so we have impressed the right people. Knowing the right people is really the only way to get anywhere in this industry these days. Talent is sadly not the highest requirement.
JNO: I totally agree with kain. I think it has helped us from the beginning the fact I work in a huge nightclub in ann arbor mi. That alone has helped me network over the years before BMM became what it is today.
How does a liveshow of B.m.m. look like, how do you transfer the energy of your music into a liveshow?
KAIN: Performing live as any other performer knows is all about energy and being able to not only create it but manipulate it. We are all very animate stage. I react to the music in a very interpretative fashion. I become the music personified. I feed off the crowd's energy like a psychic vampire and intern return it back to them.
JNO: People say I’m really over exaggerated when I perform live. The reason behind this is because I was stuck behind a drum set for 14 years. I have so much pent up aggression that when I hit the stage. I just go nuts.
You recently recorded a video, what can you tell us about this?
KAIN: Yes, we recently shot a video for the song "Destroy Beauty". This is the first song that started getting alot of popularity. So being a crowd favorite at our shows we wanted to give our dedicated fans a gift to say thanks for supporting us through the years. It was shot at The Necto nightclub in our hometown. We had a nice collection of our fans and friends come out and have fun. Also this gives us the opportunity to use this video as a tool for promotion to promoters, booking agents, record company’s and such.
Jno: the video looks fucking sick. We really appreciate and would like to thank several people here for helping us make it. Including Scot, Necto nightclub, Brandon, Adam Miller, Bryan kostoff, Christine Kitora, The whole necto staff and Becki the Baywatch bartender.
What will be next for B.M.M.?
KAIN: What’s next for B.m.m is that we plan on doing some touring this spring with our friends Living Dead. And eventually we'd love to come over to the UK and destroy some venues.
JNO: we’ve been busting our asses this winter and spring working on expanding our sound and our fan base. We recently became broke again by purchasing a new van. Now its time to put the miles on there and show the world what we’re made of
Any last words for our readers?
KAIN: Evolve Or Perish
JNO: thank you guys for having us, we look forward to seeing this online, have a good night guys.
