For those who don’t know Chaos Theory already, can you give a brief introduction to the band?

Admittedly for many years chaos theory was kind of on the back burner for me. It was little more than me just fucking around with electronic music for a long time. It wasn’t until halloween of 2006 that i played a show and got a really great response and people wanted more. I wasn’t in any other bands so it seemed like a good time to focus on it. So now I’ve established a more specific direction and will be taking it as far as it will go. It seeks to embrace a lot of satanic imagery which I think is missing in a lot of harsh ebm.

What is satanic industrial for you?

Satanic industrial is simply ‘terror ebm’ or whatever you want to fucking call it with specifically satanic lyrics, art, etc. as opposed to the usual ‘we are dark and scary but that’s about it’ ebm.

You have a background in (black) metal, what made you change the musical direction in “satanic industrial”?

I’ve been into black metal for a long time. I’ve played in two black metal bands. Most of what i listen to is black metal. That being said, i'’ve also always enjoyed the more aggressive styles of industrial. I knew I wanted to make that style of industrial but couldn’t quite decide what I wanted to do with it. I decided to melt my black metal ideologies and influences with the electronic music I was creating. I think it fits together quite well and people are getting into it.

What bands had an impact on you and were of influence?

When I first started getting into industrial I listened to suicide commando, decoded feedback, funker vogt, etc. I’m currently into bands like psyclon nine, dawn of ashes, hocico and the like. However, I’m also greatly influenced by black metal bands like gorgoroth, xasthur, leviathan and sargeist. I often will write black metal style riffs on my guitar and use the basic melodies in chaos theory. The song ‘purified’ was written in that way.

Chaos Theory is a satanic band, are the views based on the thoughts of LaVey?

Partially. I do consider myself to be a satanist but I don’t specifically adhere to all the philosophies of Lavey. I don’t really believe in dogma or rituals either (although a satanic ritual performed on stage would be interesting)  so in that sense I probably won’t be endorsed by the church of satan any time soon but I really don’t fucking care anyway. I like to portray different views on satanism. There are many forms of it besides what lavey has given, so I try to sort of explore those ideas as well.

What other writers were important for your views on life?

Well, I grew up in an evangelical christian home so I’ve read a lot of biblical material. I’ve also read a lot on different types of paganism and some eastern religions. I don’t agree with most of what those books teach, but in that sense they have greatly influenced me to see the stupidity that religion can create in the human mind. I like to read dark poetry and (obviously) books on philosophy and satanism.  I also enjoy reading about the ideas behind the actual science of chaos (which is where the idea to call the project ‘chaos theory’ came from). It helps me blend a lot of my thoughts together, which then translates into my music and lyrics.

You have many thoughts for Chaos Theory besides music, where do you want to take the band?

Where ever it will go. I’d like to see more people get into it because of the satanic aspect so I suppose that’s why I implement it so much.  Right now it’s mostly about the music, although I have started posting blogs on my personal myspace (www.myspace.com/daemonikus) which give brief introductions to my views on certain subjects. Many of my lyrics deal not only with philosophical satanism but also the idea that if god/satan/christianity or any other religions are real, I will still gladly take my rightful place in hell. I would rather burn with honour than serve without. I suppose it would be interesting to see my actual thoughts on those subjects and others brought more to the forefront in the future. to see what fans of this type of music think about things like hate and suicide. I don’t think there is enough people getting into what the bands are really about. yes the music is great, but shouldn’t there be a little more to it?

Sabo is replaced with Scarria, why this line up change?

Sabo was never really more than a live member. We did a bit of collaborating together but I felt there was a lack of commitment. After the halloween 2006 show he expressed a genuine interest to be a full member. I made efforts to get him more familiar with new material and such, but little interest was ever shown. I stumbled upon Scarria while doing random networking. She expressed immediate interest in being part of the project. Right now her position is much the same as sabo’s but the goal is to get her more involved with other aspects of the project with things like song construction, imagery, etc. I will always be the main creative force but it would be good to have someone to throw in a few extra ideas.

You just released the “Kill Pig Humans” demo, how are the responses to it?

Really good actually. I wasn’t sure how it would be received since I had not put that much effort into promoting chaos theory previously. It’s getting played at clubs and on university stations which is a good start. I will be sending out copies to labels in the near future. Once I’ve garnered a little more support.

As far as I know you, you are very outspoken, how do people react on your statements?

The most common thing people ask me when I start talking about the things I believe is ‘do you really believe that?’ The answer is a resounding ‘yes!’ My philosophies and statements on religion and other subjects are not fucking gimmicks, they are things which I have thought about for a long time and since I’m not going to be a philosphical author any time soon, I express my thoughts and ideas through my music. I couldn’t really give two shits if people are offended by what I say. If they are so closed minded that they can’t be open to new ways of thinking, then they are not worth my fucking time anyway. People will likely be shocked at many of the things I say and believe and that’s fine. I’m not a common thinker,
but they should at least open their minds to what is being said even if they disagree.

A little ago you had a live show, how did it go?

yes, we played with distorted memory and synkro. it went quite well actually. admittedly I didn’t have as much new material as I would have liked, but the demo material was well received. I think a lot of people were unsure of how to respond to me since I’m trying to create not only an anti-religious but also pro-satanic atmosphere. there are definitely those that got it right away though. that being said it will be interesting to see how people continue to respond as I push the project forward.

Do you feel connected with bands like Distorted Memory who share pretty much a similar way of thinking and make harsh ebm?

Sort of. I have known distorted memory for a long time and it’s good to see more bands creating this style of ebm. It’s good to see other people approaching more blasphemous imagery and lyrics. At the same time though, that’s where I suppose I differ slightly in that I am trying to use the more obvious satanic imagery. If you encounter chaos theory in some form, the first thing you should think of is satan. I don’t want people to have to read the lyrics to see that. It should be pretty obvious right away. I try to use samples that convey those ideas as well since it’s often difficult to make out the words when listening to the tracks. The lyrics are posted online as more of a reinforcement that, yes, this is true
satanic music, not just dark and hateful, but truly satanic.

Any last words for the readers?

Thanx for all the support from the fans and promoters all over the world. Watch for chaos theory to rip god out of every person on this fucking planet. Embrace the true nature of hate. Deny the herd mentality. We are the gods because we have created them.

“you’re right. not those fuckers that want to tell you how to think, you’re fucking right!”
