Can you give a brief introduction to Danzer?
The idea of +DANZER was born in 2004, following the listening of “cause off death suicide” from Suicide Commando in one evening in a Gothic party in Paris, I was with my best friend, Cédric (Mesmer's Eyes) and at this precise time, I decided to do electro industrial . I always made music but I was not able to focus on a style. This very special evening was a revelation for me. Otherwise, the name of the project should not be seen as something martial. +DANZER takes as a starting point the German word “Tänzer” (dancer) and the signature “Fortgeschrittene Zersetzung” (Advanced decomposition) is a reference to “ The Decay of the Angel ” a novel by Yukio Mishima, the fourth and last in the Sea of Fertility tetralogy.
I wanted that German sounds, because I have a great admiration for the German culture and language. It is a kind of artistic tribute. In addition, on a visual side, my starting point is all about the Twenties, the silent movies and their stars. You know all or almost
How would you describe the music of Danzer?
+DANZER combines elements of electro Industrial music, Pop Music, New wave and classical music. I want to touch listener’s heart and soul. The most important for me are the melodies and having the pop structure for my tracks. I draw my inspiration from Love and it multiple variations. I do not give very positive vision but it is sincere and carnal. There are also existential things, the concept of revolt, despair and destiny.
It sounds that emotion is very important in your music, is it hard to add emotion?
I'm a romantic person, perhaps that romanticism is involved in my compositions, I am not very prolific, I need to face some emotional shock to compose, it is my own way to cure my wounds, a path to discharge myself from many things. I put a lot of me in my music. But it is not because I am in an ultra-emotive phase that I'm able to retranscribe it in my music, it is a long process and a lot of work.
What are sources of inspiration for you and how do you create your songs?
My sources of inspiration are very varied, my life, a love story, a movie, an actress, some music, a book, a historical character, the world of the 21st century I belong to in spite of my own will. I do not have an established process, I can start from a lead, an improvisation on a piano or on a harpsichord, a beat or a sound. Then I add element by element, I structure, until obtaining something coherent and fully emotional.
Danzer is a one man band, is this on purpose or couldn’t you find any suitable members?
This project is fully mine, I am too much involved in the composition to be able to let somebody modify my melodies, or add some. But I will not be against the fact of including a singer (woman) on some of my tracks with a whole freedom (ALumInum VoyagE for example, she has a beautiful voice^^).
Are their plan to do live shows in the future?
I do not have enough finalized tracks to be able to do some lives actually. As you undoubtedly know it, Mesmer's Eyes has just signed on Alfa Matrix, I think that in the next months, we will be solicited for concerts to promote the album. I thus put +DANZER aside for the moment.
Cédric finished the album in response to my friendly harassing. Memser's eyes did not die. It reappears from its ashes. While signing with Alfa matrix, the future is announced enthralling and POSITIVE. It is the result of his keen work (4 years of his life) and in spite of certain personal issues, Cédric went until the end. He’s a warrior
How did you get in the live line up and what’s your exact role, only live keyboarder or do you help composing as well?
I am the human live keyboard, but I follow the construction and evolution of the tracks as an adviser. All the tracks of Mesmer’s Eyes are from Cédric, he is the only one composer. I’m rather the uncle than the father in this process.
You have already been featured on the Extreme Sündenfall compilation, how were the responses on that?
It was an honor to be part of this great compilation, I was very touched by the attention of DJ Mike EOD. I had good feedback about “Katarina”. A lot of requests on myspace from Germany and Russia. It’s an excellent startup to develop a musical project. Having a track on a CD brings material existence of something very ethereal and encourages yourself to pursue the fight.
Are you already talking to labels, what can we expect in the near future?
I do not have enough tracks to talk to labels actually, perhaps in 2009, I will try to finish my album adding new tracks. It will depend also on the Mesmer’s Eyes adventure.
