Can you give a introduction to Distorted Memory?
Distorted Memory is a Harsh EBM project mixed with many different influences of other types of electronic music ranging from Hard Techno to Psy-Trance. All very dark and blasphemous with a strong religious content. The project started in 1999 and recently released the first full length album on NoiTekk and Cop International.
How do you descripe your music yourself and why did you start making
this kind of music?
Well as I said above it’s a mix between harsh electro and other forms of hard electronic music. I try to reinvent the EBM/Industrial sound and do something new with my music.
I also work very hard to maintain a constant theme in my music. I started making this kind of music because industrial is what I have been listening to for many many years, and in the last few years I have been very into things like Hard Techno and Hard Trance which is where
the outside interests have come from.

Distorted Memory started in 1999 but is recently discovered by a bigger audience. What did you in the early days?
In the early days I was making more typical EBM, it wasn’t until recently that I added the other influences. There was a period of time where I actually became quite bored with Industrial music in its current state and I took a break from it to pursue different projects. I decided sometime last year to come back to this project and get back into writing industrial music, but with a new edge.
How did you come up with the name Distorted Memory, is there a special reason for that?
To be honest, I can not even remember where the name actually came from. Before I was writing music “Distorted Memory” was an online screen name of mine for different message boards and websites and when I started making music I just adopted the name for the project.
Some people have thought that the name came from a Skinny Puppy song where the lyric
distorted memory is used, but this is in fact not true.
On your website you say: The music of Distorted Memory is fresh and inventive.
What’s the biggest difference between Distorted Memory and tons of other bands?
I think there are a few differences between my music, and the music of many other current industrial bands. One is that I feel I have a much higher level of quality control when it comes to my productions; this is something that is missing in a lot of industrial music. Not all, but many
bands in this scene do not take the time to master the art of creative mixing and production like musicians in other electronic scenes. I also bring in a lot of outside influence from other genres of music. Other bands in the scene have brought in outside influence, but I believe my own blend is unique and different from anything else out there. There are a few bands in the scene that I do think are doing a very good job of making very unique and well done music, bands like Hocico, and VNV Nation.
Your lyrics are blasphemous. How do you feel towards religion?
My feelings towards religion are very personal, however if you read into my lyrics enough you should get a general idea of how I feel. I am not like many artists who outwardly hate god. This is something you might think at first, but you will see after listening closely that it is not a
hatred towards god, as much as a hatred towards the corporate church in modern society. Along with that I simply find the Christian mythos very fascinating, and to be one of the darkest forms of literature available.
Your samples are really nice, where do you find them?
The “Burning Heaven” album is very heavily sample laden (which the next album will step away from). The samples on the album came from a few key movies, namely “The Order”, “The Prophecy”, “Frailty”, and “The Omen 3”.
What’s the role of Dryad in the band. Does he only do live support or does he have any influence on the songs as well?
He is mainly my live support and does not actually write music in the studio with me. However he does have a very important role and influence of the writing of my music. He acts as my sounding board for ideas, and constantly gives creative input. He acts as an outside ear / perspective for me to test new music and ideas on before they are heard by the public.

The NoiTekk deal came about from a demo sent to them a few years ago. There actually would have been an album out much sooner, however around the time they became interested in releasing an album is when I decided to take a break from the project. The licensing deal through COP was something that was set up by NoiTekk.
When will there be any merchandise available and how can people get their hands on it?
A t-shirt design was just created and sent to Black Rain and should hopefully be available soon.
Is the democd still available and will you ever use to the songs on it again for a future release?
The demo CD is long gone, there were only ever 50 made and I myself only have one copy left
I believe many of the songs are available on different file sharing networks and that is probably the only place to get the music until the CD eventually starts popping up on ebay. I would also
like to point out that on soulseek I have seen many of my old songs (older than the demo, some that I don’t even have mp3s of) available for download labelled as being on the demo CD, this is in fact untrue. The correct track listing of the demo can be found on my website. I would like to eventually release some of the older material (there is lots) as a bonus CD for fans.
Any last words for the readers?
All I can say is thank you to everyone who sends their kind words to me daily, and thanks to
everyone actually going out and buying the CD instead of just downloading it. You are the true
fans, the ones who truly love and appreciate the music, the ones that I write for. Cheers!
