Who is Distortiongirl?

I´m a girl 27 years old been born in Brazil but that lives in Spain since I have memory, I love the music, to take a walk, to laugh, the kisses... I spin as DJ, I'm the live keyboardist of the band Culture Kultür and I work in the webzine www.sonidobscuro.com

How did you get the nickname “Distortiongirl”

"Distortiongirl" was the title of an erotic/dark poem that I wrote for the band Hocico in 1999. Since then I use this nick to spin, to play...

Is there a big difference between you offstage and onstage?

I´m more likeable outside the stage, when I spin or play the keyboard (real playing, I do no playback!) I´m concentrated and I can seem something cold but in fact I´m not like that.

You are a dj as well, how and when did you start with this?

I was in my city (Granada, Spain) in a pub and the boss asked me and  a friend about the possibility of spinning there in a only female djs party. Of course, I said yes!

What is your current top 10 to spin at parties?

Mmmm, difficult question!, it´s better to say some bands: Suicide Commando, Vnv Nation, Converter, Esplendor Geométrico, Editors, X Fusion, In Strict Confidence, Bloc Party, Spiritual Front, Imminent Starvation, Pride And Fall....

Besides dj’ing you play live keyboard for Culture Kultür and work for a webzine, what is your mainfocus on these?

In the three activities what inspires me is the love for this music, and the expansion of it outside the dark scene.

How do you see this expansion outside the dark scene?

In Spain this expansion is very slow and lamentable, in Germany for example there is more support to this kind of music, in his tv channels you can see videos of Apoptygma, Rammstein, De/Vision, L'Âme Immortelle ..., the specialized magazines (Orkus, Side Line ...) are sold in many places ... In my country all this is still very difficult. But in general in Europe, USA .. little by little they stop seeing us as "weird" or as almost a "sect" :)

What means music for you, can you descripe this love for music?

It seems incredible to me when a song, a sound, a melody, a voice .. can make you cry, imagine without limits or travel mentally. The music transports me and I believe that it pulls the best out of me.

How did you get involved in Culture Kultür?

I knew the singer of CK in a party in 2001, from this moment, Salva (the singer) and I  are couple and since then I started to spin in CK, the after show parties, I sold the merch, looked out for concerts, and in 2005 I started to play the keyboard with my first concert in Berlin (K-17 Club).

What is the current status of Culture Kultür?

Culture Kultür is preparing new songs but in a slow and safe form, CK do not work fast, besides this the members have other occupations and it’s not always easy to have many time for the music.

Are you involved in songwriting as well or you just play live keyboards?

I created the melodies (strings and leads) for the songs in live but also im the "manager" of the band and I say my opinion about the new songs with ideas, details, etc and if this is of any help to the band it would be very nice for me.

What is the craziest thing you ever did?

I don't do many, I'm responsible in this sense, maybe to escape a days of house when I was 18 years old to pursue a boy...

You also belong to the staff of sonidobscuro webzine? What do you do for the webzine?

Sonidobscuro it´s the best (in my opinion) dark music magazine in spanish (www.sonidobscuro.com), I do disc reviews, interviews, promotions, news.... In October of 2007 we celebrated the 6º anniversary.

How would you descibe your character?

I'm shy but sometimes barefaced, I like to know new people, I liked to help to the people that I love, I hate the hypocrisy and the violence.

How does your ultimate day look like?

... It would be one day without obligations or schedules, with time to enjoy the brand new discs, to eat my favorite food, to see one of the best chapters of the Simpsons, a beer to take, seeing the late afternoon on the beach and in the night to go with my friends and Salva to a good concert.

What's your favorite drink?

I don't like the "hard" drinks like vodka, whisky... I like the beer, coke, white Martini and Amaretto.

What are your personal futureplans and will you try to achieve them?

In the plane personal: labour stability, I'm sociologist I have a master of human resources and now I work as an investigator for a company. In the music, I want to learn to play and spin better, to create music... The next concerts with CK are, Terra Gotha XV (03th november), Avantgardia Festival in Island Canarians (17th november) and the 12th december with Assembage 23 in Frankfurt/Main.

Any last words for the readers?

See you at Terra Gotha boys and girls! and I wait for your messages to www.myspace.com/distortiongirl and www.myspace.com/culturekultur
