Can you give a brief introduction to ES23?
ES23 was found in 2004 by me, Daniel, but the way you see ES23 now began in 2007. We make type of Dark Electronics with a variety of Industrial, harsh and melodic Music. It is quite hard for us to find a correct definition. So - the best way to find out what we exactly do is to listen to our Music!
Is ES23 your first band or did you gain experience in other bands before?
Before ES23 I played Guitar in several Metal Bands. ES23 is my first experience in electronic Music! But with the Metal Bands i got some experience especially for live gigs ;) So, we will be prepared for that!
Can you explain the band name ES23?
Actually, the Band name has no meaning. It is just 2 Letters and 2 Numbers. The Name was found by chance. Take a look at the Logo and you will know why – hehe - .
ES23 started in 2004 as an instrumental solo project, in 2005 you added vocals to the music. Why did you decide to do this?
I don´t like music without vocals very much, beside Soundtracks. And I always wanted to play live gigs with ES23, too and for me a Singer is a must have on stage.
In 2007 Tim joined you. Where did you meet each other and what made you decide that he’s the right person to be in ES23 as a band member?
Tim and I are very good friends - maybe best :) And he knew about my music project and was really excited about it, so I asked him if he would join the band. The first way he helped me was finding lyrics for Born and About a God and it worked perfectly. So I decided to include him to the band!
In what way did the joining of Tim changed the creative part of ES23, what does he add to the band?
Tim is my “right hand” and the first one who listens to new material and gives his opinion. We write the lyrics together with a little help of our beloved "Quarenta y Tres" - hehe -. Tim helps out on stage, too. So he is a must have for ES23 and without him it would be just half good!
In may 2008 you recorded the demo “Born” how were the comments on that?
This 6 Track demo was handed out to friends, djs and our first Fans. Everyone was very excited about our tracks and wanted more. So we started to work on a full album.
Was this demo a learning process for you, in what way did the debut album, God23, benefit from your experiences in recording?
Yes, it was a learning process and the demo was the first way to see the reactions from others. After it we made new tracks, we decided to create a FULL-Album. We always try to make better tracks and in doing that we learn and learn ;)
The debut album God23 is released in 2009, how are the comments on it so far?
We did the Album completely on our own and sold about 70 Albums and here are just 4 left on ebay at deejaydead cd-shop!
What surprised me about the album is that not all tracks are made for dancefloors, there are also slower dark electro tracks, do you think the album has a good balance?
Yes, this is what we wanted to do! A good balance! We do not really want to do just Dancefloor Songs. We want to show our full potential and maybe this is something that makes ES23 so special. I think we have Songs for everyone in the scene.
How would you describe your audience, what people will like ES23?
As I said before, we have a good variety of Songs and so I think everyone in the scene (or even not in the scene) will have a song he likes ;)
The God23 is also released as a 2cd. The 2nd cd has only remixes by acts like Electric breathing, Shadow Minds, Animassacre and La Magra, why did you decide to add an extra cd with remixes and was it hard to realize this?
No, no. This was the easiest part of the Album ;) We are befriended with many Bands and when we asked them to make a remix, they did! And the results were very good! We thought an extra CD with remixes would be a good special for the Album. I like remixes and I like to see what musicians can create with just the midi files and vocals! They can give their own style and can give a song a special touch.
ES23 hasn’t played live yet but you are preparing live shows, what is the hardest in transforming your music to a live setting?
The hardest thing is, that you cannot play everything live, but we try to make the best of that. Our first show is already planed and will be on 10th, October 2009 in Gladbeck, together with All the Ashes and Blütenasche and there will be more concerts in the future. We are already planning more ;)
