EYCROMON

Hello Mandra Gore and Bergerac, thanx for doing this interview with us, how are you both doing?

Doing fine, thank you. Everything is very stressful at the moment, but in a completely positive way.

Congratulations in the 2nd place in the newcomer voting for radio Deep Inside, 600 votes is impressive, how did you get so many votes since nobody has such a big family?

Also to us it was a bit of surprise. We are very thankful to have such a strong following yet and the enormous response confirms us in our work.

Can you give a brief introduction to EYCROMON? How did the two of you meet and what made you decide to leave previous bands and start a new band together?

EYCROMON was founded in early 2009. In February we met through the musicians of another band project. Within few weeks we both felt a kind of mutual artistic completion, which made us leave every other project behind to focus on the mutual work.
Our interpretation of electronic music is the mixture of retro-futuristic sound-design, intensive beats and expressively interpreted lyrics. In other words: Synthesizer meets classical vocals combined with pop-structures and expressive harmonies – lyrics swayed by dark romantic reveal traces of the bitterness and intensity of life.

The name EYCROMON is really well thought, can you explain it?

The name EYCROMON (EYe - CROss - MoON) is a symbol of our inspirations and roots, it emblematizes three coherent levels:

The Cross stands for the union of complementary extremes, may it be heaven and earth, life and death, beginning and end - cornerstones of every human's life. But it also stands for the inside and outside (macro- and microcosm): Beauteousness and truth, which EYCROMON tries to satisfy with its awareness of aesthetics and profundity.

The Moon mirrors this duality into every space of change and time. It stands for an infinity that we long for and that holds us in our duality.

The controlling glance of the observer (the Eye) rests on these two. It alone weighs the seen and gives eternity or expiration

EYCROMON

The name makes us think that you are both spiritual persons, is this correct and can you explain what spirituality is for you?

Growing musically and personally is important for every artist. Self-awareness, self-criticism and honesty to oneself are the foundation of creation. EYCROMON is our life – we always dreamed of self-fulfillment, the chance to express ourselves, to reach the audience with our music. That is what it's all about for us.

You both had a different background in music, what it hard to find a direction for EYCROMON in which you both can put your talents, creativity and passion? How did you find the right style for EYCROMON?

Though we had different backgrounds – Mandra Gore is trained in classical singing, Bergerac gained his experiences as a keyboarder and composer over the years in the Progressive Rock - and Electro-Wave Genre – we never had any problems in finding a common direction, on the contrary, the music evolved as naturally as if we had been waiting for each other for a long time.

Mandra Gore, you are a classical trained singer, in what way does your training benefit your singing for EYCROMON or was your training focused on something completely different?

I was trained in classical singing, originally with the objective of becoming an opera singer. But I changed my mind. Nevertheless the training gave me the chance to discover and develop my voice which definitely benefits my artistic skills and the mutual work.

You are also a vocal teacher yourself, what is the most important thing you teach your students besides different kind of techniques?

Become aware of yourself, accept yourself, fight for your dreams.

How is the music for EYCROMON created? Do you always work the same way on music or does it deviate every time?

Usually first there is a musical idea, a theme, that Bergerac develops on the piano. After that, Mandra Gore tries to find the lyrics, most of the time some ideas come to mind instantly and the text emerges, inspired by the music. After that, we bring it all together, we find the melodies, create the sounds until we found the perfect electronic sound design for the song. Though the main musical ideas mostly emerge very quickly, we invest a lot of time in fine-tuning until we both are 100% positive about the result.

EYCROMON

You just released your first demo, did you get back comments on it already, how were the comments?

Right after finishing the demo, the German magazine ORKUS asked us for a song for their compilation...it will be published in February. So to say this was the first reaction we got ;-)

Mandra Gore, you told me the song Silent Boy was a special song for you, can you tell us a bit more about it?

Silent Boy is a song about an autistic child, self-absorbed, motionless, scared. He might have lost his voice, but his eyes tell about his cruel fate... An intensive experience with an autistic boy  inspired me to the lyrics.

You have done several live shows already, you use an extra member for the live shows Urielle, what is her role in the band?

Urielle is a long-time friend of us and supports us in many ways. She is also our live backing vocalist on stage.

You use videos as well, why do you this and do the videos have a link to the songs?

With our videos we try to give the audience a multi-media experience: They reflect our music and complement our live performance in a very expressive way. Watch them - they will speak for themselves.

EYCROMON

What will be next for EYCROMON?

On 19th February, one of our songs will be published in the German magazine ORKUS. Several concerts are planned for 2010, maybe some abroad as well. And we will soon release our first album EYCROMANIA, but there is no date fixed yet. News and current information on our website.
