Electric Breathing

Since Electric Breathing is a pretty new band, can you give us a brief introduction?

I, Defcon-One, founded Electric Breathing as a side-project of Confused Defuser, my old industrial-noise-project. Soon I realized that I could identify more with Electric Breathing, because of the more complex music, so I put Confused Defuser on ice and concentrated on Electric Breathing.

Who are the members of Electric Breathing and what is their background, why did you decide to start a band?

I, Defcon One, am making music since I was 10. It started all, as I got a keyboard as a birthday-gift. I learned fast and started to compose my own songs. As I was 16 I had my first band, a metal act, as a singer and keyboarder. I got a new keyboard, bigger and better with built in 16 track midi recorder. Two years later, the band split off and I started to compose electronic music on that keyboard, all played by hand. A short time later, I got my own pc and started to experience with software, and Confused Defuser was born. I decided to make music, because for the love of music, my whole life is music. The genre came from alone, I never thought: I have to copy the style of this or that band. I just love this kind of music, so I do it. Foremost, music is an excellent outlet for me to handle some things easier.
Ursus joined 2007, as I decided to play live. He is a man with experience on stage, a really good keyboard-player. And that is, what counts for me.

Electric Breathing

How did you met Ursus and what experience does he have? What did he do before joining Electric Breathing?

We met in a club, I got on best with him from the first moment and told him about Electric Breathing. Thereupon he told me that he plays synthesizer. He is making music since he was in the 5th grade. Until the 7th grade he played trumpet, From the 8th grade he learned guitar and played in a punk band. As he started an education to music equipment trade, he went on a course in keyboard-playing with his boss.

Can you describe the name, where does it stand for?

I had a lot of problems, to decide for a band name, there were several available. Finally I decided to take electric Breathing because first: it sounds like electronic music and second: it takes a kind of sickness with it, and for me, Electric Breathing is simply a sick music project.

How would you describe your music?

Every song is very individual and i would describe it as: fast, sick, aggressiv and a punch in your face.

Your music is really suited for the dancefloors, is that what you keep in mind when you compose a new song?

Of course, we create the music, we would dance to.

What are, in your mind, criteria for a good song to dance too?

It has to be fast and aggressive. A good melody too and I can totally unfold.

Electric Breathing

In may you self released an album called “Blood Flavour” is it still available and how do you look back on the making of this first album?

Oh, it was a chaos, so it was released for download. I produced the album under pressure of time, because I wanted to finish it before our first gig, and as I had to to do many things at that time the last five songs where build in two weeks, and I can hear it.

Can we make the conclusion you regret this release?

No, that's not the point. It's just, that the album is not exact the way as I imagined. For example, the arrangements could be more perfect or the sound could be fuller.

You have been featured on the compilation “Extreme Sündenfall  6” how did you get on this compilation and did you get a lot of responses to your track?

Yes, it was cool, some day I had a message on Myspace that they wanted to publish „Kill her dreams“ on their sampler. There was a lot of feedback, and we become the most favorite band to some.

How important is the internet for a band like Electric Breathing, some say internet is a curse because of the downloading but it’s also a good way for bands to spread their name, what do you think of this?

It is very important, I think hardly anybody would know about Electric Breathing without internet. For sure, filesharing is a great problem in music business, but as a marketing instrument, the internet is unbeatable. As many things it has its good and bad sides.

You have already did some shows, how did they go? Is hard to bring your music live on stage?

It never runs as we think, but we are good at improvisation.  It is hard to get gigs, because the most hosts are skeptical, but they are quite right.

Electric Breathing

Why are they right in being skeptical, what do you mean by this?

Well, in these days many people are making music, the production has become downright easy, and many people make alot of bad music, but there has to be a certain harmony in music and some good ideas, regardless how technical progressive making music is. Therefore many don't even listen to the music, if you are a newcomer and quite unknown, they put you immediately in a box! And if you are capable to make a good show is a question, too!

What will be next for Electric Breathing?

Next I have a live- and a backstage-video in mind. I think, it will be funny.

And when can we expect an album of Electric Breathing?

It should be finished in 2009. Harder, faster and more extreme than Blood Flavour was. This time, every song is really well thought-out and accurately arranged.

Any last words for the readers?

I hope, we will see at our next gig ;)
