Hello Evi, thank you for doing this interview, how are you doing?

Its a pleasure thank you for inviting me.

Who is Evi Fine, can you introduce yourself?

EVI VINE!!! ha ha, not Fine!

What triggered you to be a musician?

Necessity! I can't hold down a job.

Who are rolemodels for you, what kind of influence did they have on you?

Musical early memories are more visual, The Cure, Siouxi Sioux... I loved the idea that there was this subculture living in the shadows creating all this great sounding music.

Many people came to know you because your work with The Eden House, how did it come to this collaboration and how do you look back on your work with The Eden House?

I know and I'm thrilled. I had an existing relationship with jungle records through Bob White NFD, I was contacted midway recording an album with Peter Yates when Tony Petit called me...it seemed like a wonderful opportunity and one not to miss - performing live with Amandeen was an amazing experience.

The Eden House is a band with members who have a lifetime experience in music, what have you learned from them?

Well we all came from very different backgrounds and I have actually been writing and performing for nearly 10 years so I think we brought alot of experience to each other...into the melting pot collectively.

You are about to release your debut album soon called “ and so the morning comes” Can you explain the title?

The premier EP Human Remains from 2006 felt very raw and sorrowful with no way out, suffocating but it felt like there had been a shift somehow and working with Steven, producing the music together felt more like sunshine and change suddenly - as opposed to suffocating.

It’s always a time full of tension for every musician, the weeks before a release, how is this for you?

A weight has been taken from us for the first time in years and I fell I can breathe. We have signed off on the album there is no more we could have done and we just hope it’s received well - we just need to learn how to play it live now!

The recording of the album was a hard process, what were the things that made it hard, what happened?

As always the recording process was amazing I can’t fault it - it was a major learning experience for us both but we enjoyed every minute including production which we have never done before, not on this level. We got stung on the mixing however and lost too much money and too much time...you know who you are. After that we decided to go alone and mix the record ourselves as we own this music and felt like we knew how it should be.

A good song is a song that still stands when being played acoustic, do you agree on this and having this is mind, do your songs still sand when being played acoustic?

A good song should connect somehow with an audience/listeners and it should be automatic, and defy style or a scene..I hope our songs work well.

How would you describe your music, what is the perfect time to listen to it?

Apparently after a joint...am I allowed to say that?! it's definitely a late night album...private...

When listening to the album, is there a song that stands out for you personally, that has a special place in your heart?

'For the Dreamers' is a really special piece for me...but they all have a history...a very long history.

You created this album together with Steven Hill, what is the magic in your musical partnership? Why is he the ideal man for you to work with?

Well for now we certainly seem to have found something quite rare, it has taken a while for both of us. Steven pushed himself and is very brave, we work together without ego concentrating on what works for the song- he only picked up the guitar a year ago.

How is the music for Evi Vine created, can you give us an insight in the creative process?

I'm constantly writing on drawing paper, ideas scribbled on bus tickets, note pads, books anything, and I keep it all! Somehow the ideas turn themselves into a verse and then a chorus if I'm lucky..a melody will often start the process and the mood of the song...it’s the most incredible sensation.

Do you consider yourself more to be a creator or a performer?

My favourite place is behind the scenes - recording is very intimate and private - performing can be daunting, it’s hard to be judged.

On the album you worked with many musicians, how did you get them to contribute to it and how is it to work with so many musicians?

Amazing and we were so lucky...

Ofcourse you will be supporting the album with live shows, how do you prepare for those and are there some concerts planned already?

We have a launch gig with Peter yates in London, 22nd november...Then we are planning a small European tour and some festival dates..hopefully WGT 2011.

Do you have any strange rituals before going on stage?

I kind of close myself and just focus on my guitar and my hands..the silence...what I have to do as well as make sure the guys are happy.

Who will be on stage with you, do you have a steady live line up? Can you introduce your liveband?

With pleasure;

So Steven will be playing electric /sonic guitars and sometimes drums, Ruban Bass plays bass right now, Al Richardson on drums, Hannah Gillett, Ben Roberts on Cello and I will be on vocals and guitar...

What will be next for you?

The 2nd album of course!!

Any last words for the readers?

You are very welcome, we hope you hear something you like...Evi x
