Hello Genevieve, thank you for doing another interview with us, how are you doing?

I´m fine, thanks.

You released Virgin Pulses in 2006, after that it was quiet. What did you do after the release of Virgin Pulses, was it a successful album for you?

Virgin Pulses was a collection of single-tracks, compilation participations and rerelease of the first album. So in fact the last album in 2006 was the Soap Bubble Factory. We were surprised how great the response was, so you really ca say it was successful. It wasn´t that quiet, not for us, doing shows, interviews etc. thats all a kind of “work” too.

In autumn 2009 you released the new album “ Le cabaret moi”  why is there such a long gap in between both releases, what was causing this delay?

After a short break we startet recording for the following Release on Ant-Zen. And 3 years are not very long and not unusual for us.
Comparing the two releases you could find  process in arranging. And the Vocals are more melodic and harmonized to the sounds. Not like the experimental Style of the earlier songs. I wanted to work more song orientated without losing the view upon the experimental, industrial routes I came from. That was the hardest aim to reach.

At a given moment you told me you had a writers block, how did you deal with this,  did it make you feel desperate at times?

Writing lyrics is quite different. While music can take a time textwriting comes after and after. For me the lyrics a r the same, and sometimes more important than the music. But while composing can lead you somewhere, lyrics come from one thought, a  short inspiration, and you have to fill the rest with words....

Sometimes it goes better and sometimes it doesn´t.

So I guess there are other things to worry about ;-)

Can you explain the album title, le cabaret moi? If there would be a Genevieve Pasquier cabaret how would it look like?

I have chosen this title because I want to show my cabaret. The Cabaret: MOI. It´s only me.... nothing else.
If I would stage a cabaret I would be very glittery, glamorous... with a lot of red, purple and pink. Sweet girls, androgyne men, and funny little fairies. A lot of flowers and rainbows. Singing laughing people. Wrapped in  a  kind of melancholic, depressive and threatening mood.

Did you use any special influences for this album, things that have happened in your life, things you have seen or heard? Is this a more personal album for you?

Every album is very personal for me. All songs are a kind of reflection of some situations I run through, memories, thoughts I´m not able to shake off. So my music is a part of me.....

Still it is impossible to label your music, there are some more quiet songs as well as more beatdriven songs, how do you find a balance in this and still create a homogenic album?

I don´t know.... it happens..... somehow it works.

While creating an album you have a conclomeration of songs.... and at the end of recording I try to find a good flow. And there´s nothing worse than a boring album, where every song sounds the same.

A suprising song on the album is Warm Leatherette,  original done by The Normal. Why put a cover on the album and what made you decide to pick this track?

Accidentaly while recording we made a track sound like a harsh version of Warm leatherette.... and so I did it.
The decision to put it on the album came really late at a point the album was complete... It´s always hard to endure a comparison with the original. Especially when it´s such a famous and often covered track. But I wanted to do it because in my eyes it´s more a “homage” than a cover.

How are the comments on the album so far?

Are there any comments? Do you know more????? Tell me..........!!!!

You just released an ep called “Handle with care” are all songs on the album new songs or are it songs that didn’t fit on the album?

If something don´t fit, I donn´t wear it! ;-)

The title song “handle with care” was released 2009 on a compilation “Druckempfinden” in a slightly different version. The other songs are new.

These days many bands release ep’s with tons of remixes. On your ep is no remix, why is that?

I´m not a remixer.....

I never thought about remixing and being remixed.... I don´t know if this is necessary. Should I?

This august you will play on the Summer Darkness festival, what can people expect of your show?

Don´t expect anything...! Just watch and enjoy!
