Can you give a brief introduction to Ginger Snap5?

Hi all, this is  an electro industrial project from the Ukraine - Ginger Snap5.

Before you started Ginger Snap5, you were playing in another band, why did you quit and when you did quit, did you already had the plans to start Ginger Snap5?

Concerning the fact of my leaving from the group, there was a conflict of interests.

But I must also admit, that there were some other reasons for that, like music differences  and of course, thoughts of plans for  my solo project.
My leaving was an incitement for its realization somehow. But actually, I wouldn’t like to discuss it in public.

How would you describe the music of Ginger Snap5?

I would say, that it’s atmospheric and powerful somehow.  Music that doesn’t try to involve you in the society or war problems. Music that makes you dance, whether on a dance floor or at home. I’m not trying to put moral pressure upon the public through my music, I just want my music to cling to people, so that in the end there are no hard thoughts in their heads.

Originally the sound was, according your bio, a mix between Katatonia and A perfect circle, what made you decide to change it?

I wanted  to bring something new. Something, that could dilute guitar music and make it popular with people with different music tastes. Later I met  Razed in Black. They made exactly the music I needed. Eurotrance arpeggirators and sequencers, combined with guitar. I started to experiment with the sound. At that time I didn’t know a lot about such styles like EBM and DARK ELECTRO (I knew a maximum of 10-15 bands) and didn’t know how to make  electro music at all, so I  gained experience, Getting acquainted with bright representatives of these music styles. Later I moved away from guitars and started to make synth paries, based on my guitar style play. If you listen to the tracks in chronological order, you can hear how my style has developed, but stayed recognizable.
All in all everything has come down to this, but it continues to change.  As the saying goes, I’m always open to something new.

Is the band names after the movie Ginger Snaps, are movies a source of inspiration, if so what kind of movies inspire you and why?

Of course, in the period of creating this project,  Ginger Snaps was one of the favorite movies, and of course it had an influence on the music’s mood and the project’s atmosphere. Concerning the figure 5 instead of an S, we had to do that, so that we be different from other groups with the same name, and I was surprised to know that more bands exists  with the same name.

At the moment  I love dramas, stupid Hollywood comedies. I also love TV series like, Desperate Housewive’s, Californication, Dead Like Me and etc. Actually, I love movies, which do not take themselves too seriously and do not fuck my brain, like David Linch movies.

Is Ginger Snap5 a one person band and do you use other people for live shows? Do you intend to keep Ginger Snap5 a solo project?

Usually, Ginger Snap5 is a one man project, but my wife has a direct relation to the GS5 music. She is my muse and main critic. Without her it would be much harder and gloomy. For concerts I involve session musicians, because the dynamics of the show doesn’t allow me to play and jumping by the stage at the same time.

Your profile says that you will never play in the Ukraine again, why is that?

I said these words in 2005. They are based on the fact, that I didn’t set any response from the public, and was disappointed, as you can understand.  At that time people didn’t know such music very well. Now it’s much better, and I must say, that last year I had a concert there and it was a 100% success. So, the taboo on the Ukraine is removed.

Isn’t it the fate of every new band that people just watch and don’t dance, I see that happen a lot. What is your opinion on this?

You are right. The problem is that audience doesn’t care, if there are beginners in front of them. Only a few will support dancing, and others will just stand and at the best – watch. I always support unknown projects, dancing and applauding for them. In my case it was a little easier, but I also faced this problem.

How is the Ukraine scene these days, it seems not many bands are coming from the Ukraine?

Oh, It’s a pointless question. Ukraine is so poor in this area, that there is no sense discussing it. We’ve got 3-5 groups, apart from Ginger Snap5, who are more or less popular. Three of them gave concerts at the Wave Gotic Treffen and at the Castle Party.

Ginger Snap5 appeared on Storfrequenz and will appear on the next Noise Terror compilation, how did you get in contact with them and did you receive some comments already?

In the case of Noise Terror compilation it was all magic and unexpected for me, however in Storfrequenz, I didn’t submit an application. Of course, I wanted to be on Noise Terror compilation, but couldn’t imagine how to raise this question or which track to send. A month after the  Suicide Commando at the Castle Party’07, Johan Van Roy contacted me and proposed to participate in the compilation. I was really very surprised like O_O, and agreed without any hesitation. He chose the track and I sent it to him. Concerning Extreme Storfrequenz, I didn’t know about it’s existence. The story was the same: I was contacted and offered a participation. I really appreciated, that such a “myspace” project  like GS5, was offered to take part in such compilations.

When will a full length be released, are you working on it already?

Hahah. Such a classic question. I’ve got no idea, when the official release,is but I’m in the process of working on it. The problem is that I’ve got several tracks, but because of that the new ones are very different from the old one, it’s hard to make a new album. I’m just continuing to work, waiting until a big label is interested in me. But actually, I hope that if I release a disc, thousands of copies will be sold. So, thnx to all those, who are still waiting for the release.

Any last words for the readers?

I would like to thank everyone who appreciates Ginger Snap5’s music. The support of those who listen to it is really important for me, and I show my appreciation by communicating with them. I am wholeheartedly thankful to the DJs, who use my tracks in their play lists, because it influences the promotion. And of course, I would like to thank those, who don’t just stand on the dance floor, while GS5 is playing, but even jump around a little. And of course, thank you, Cyber Angels.
