Hello Mistress Aranea Peel, thank you for doing this interview with us, how are you doing?
I feel great! I just signed a contract with Scanner/Dark Dimensions.
Can you give a brief introduction to Grausame Töchter?
GRAUSAME TÖCHTER (cruel daughters) is a music project to act out all my passion in a creative way – like music – Industrial,Punk, Chanson(yeah I know) and soundtracks – and dance which I studied.
Why is the perfect bandname for you, in what way is it related to the bandconcept?
The concept is that 3 drummers join me on stage. From time to time for big stages the trumpeter Michael Gross joins us as well. As well there are some females, intimate friends I am not gonna tell you about, except that they can sing and dance...and more.
What is driving you in life? What is the thrill you chase in life?
Art, aesthetic, music, dance, fashion and sex.
Did any of you have bands or projects prior to Grausame Töchter?
Everybody at least did something. I attach great importance to that all bandmembers are excellent, preeminently musicians and know their manual skills perfectly but are also highly emotional – real artists which support GRAUSAME TÖCHTER with more than 100%.
Grausame Töchter is a very provocative band but what are the ethics as an artist that matter to you?
My view on music is that it is art. That is why my first priority is that GRAUSAME TÖCHTER is true and authentic because otherwise it would not be artistic. If it comes across provocative it’s a side effect of honesty.
BDSM is playing a big role in Grausame Töchter, everybody has ideas what this is but what is BDSM in your mind? What is it all about?
HAHA – BDSM is hot! BDSM makes the biggest part in my sexuality, I work as well as a dominatrix. It belongs to me so it belongs to my band as well.
How do you incorporate BDSM in Grausame Töchter?
The lyrics are always incorporating BDSM – sometimes open sometimes rather hidden. And the stage performance shows it as well. It’s not a show – its real as well.
I had sex on stage as well as BDSM if I didn’t play in very catholic areas. I think you have to be consequent otherwise you lie.
Can good music sell itself or is a good visual presentation playing a big role in it as well?
I don’t know and I don’t care.
The pictures are a true piece of art, it reminds me of Die Form, is it a band you feel connected to?
People often ask that but I think Die Form are doing something else than we do.
It is often compared because BDSM plays a role in both projects – but nevertheless I like them.
Aranea, what are rolemodels for you, what kind of persons do you admire?
It’s not a secret I am attracted to women. Love and sex are only possible for me with women, with men I only do BDSM but only if they are very submissive and masochistic. I am for radical emancipation and as well for radical sexualisation.
It’s not liked by traditional men nor by feminists.
How would you describe your music, I hear different kind of influences?
Yeah there are many influences. Industrial, Noize, EBM, Elektro, punk and idontknowwhat you hear in it. but there is more to it you can’t hear so easily. Classic, chanson soundtracks funk and soul and so on...
How do you create your music, do you always work the same way or does it deviate?
When I shop something pops into my head that has nothing to do with EBM or so...Later in the studio it becomes more and more electronic. Yesterday for example I was in the studio and played a military march. That was fun – it’s going to be a very harsh track! Haha!
On myspace ,people can hear several songs but when will there be an album out?
The Album will be released by Scanner/Dark Dimensions in spring 2011. It is called MEIN EIGENTLICHES ELEMENT (my true element). It’s a quote from the track “Mephisto” with parts of Goethes “Faust”.
What is the idea behind “Meine Messer” since there are 3 parts in your player?
Mein Messer (my knife) is the only track which takes 12 minutes. At myspace it is in 3 parts because you can’t put 12 minute long tracks on myspace...thats it :-)
All your lyrics are in german, will this stay this way or will you do English lyrics as well in the future?
German is the language I know, have a feeling for and can express myself. I did text something in English but I did throw it away because I didn’t trust my own words. So in the future not Belgian, Canadian, Swiss, English or anything else...
What are the things you want to achieve with Grausame töchter?
I am happy on stage! Means I want to play many creative concerts. In the studio I am happy as well because it’s a place full of creativity. Video and movie I find more and more interesting.
Will Grausame Töchter do live shows as well in the future, if so, what can people expect to see on stage?
There will be concerts with orgiastic performance!
