Interview with Inline Sex Terror

Can you give a brief introduction to Inline Sex Terror?

DV/H: Inline.seX.terror is one man project….me and myself :)

Inline Sex Terror was created back in 2002 under the name ZERSTORWUT, when I started to work seriously on the first songs ,I produced a demo tape with 4 songs but they have never seen the light of day….in the following years I started to work and to work on new songs until 2008 (many years I know J but I was working as a promoter and Resident DJ at the same time), the name changed to INLINE SEX TERROR, and 2008 was also the year when IST signed with DANSE MACABRE Records , and prepared the debut album "11:11" which was released August first 2008. The Album got many positive feedbacks from the magazines and has enter at DAC (Deutsch Alternative Charts) for 7 weeks and reach position number 4.

In October IST has completed the "11:11 European Tour" to support the success of the 11:11 Album and played 3 gigs to support DAS ICH (Wupertal , Herford , Frankfurt) also IST playing at Kasel , Nuremberg , Weissenburg , Wien)

The success of the debut album was much bigger...and the 11:11 Album reached number 38 in the top 50 Albums in 2008 of DAC’s voting.
These days I have finished the Recordings & Mixing process of the new EP called “Distorted Life”. The EP includes 3 new songs and 11 remixes from very known artists like Suicide Commando , Leather Strip , Fabrik C , Supreme Court , Implant , C-Lekktor , V2A , Beati Mortui and more. The new EP is scheduled to be released after the summer from DANSE MACABRE Records.

You started in the music-scene as a dj, do you think it had a positive influence on you a musician, after all you know what makes people dance?

DV/H: Yes I started as DJ in the scene 12 years ago, it was very different in the scene back then and now, and of course if you listen and play music 4 days a week you start to learn what makes the people move and dance, so for me it was an “extra” push to write music and because I was DJ for so many years I have a good hearing for music.

The band started in 2002 under the name Zerstorwut, how do you look back on the old days and what was the reason to change the name?

DV/H: The early years as Zerstorwut were completely different! I was a young musician who didn’t decided yet which kind of music I wanted to write! I started to experiment with Noise, Power Noise music, but it was nothing seriously! J Maybe that’s why I never published any song or demo that time!

But in 2007 after I quit the residency in clubs – I had more free time for myself AND to write music, so I started to work with new material, more industrial-EBM sound, after completing 5-6 tracks, I decided that the name Zerstorwut didn’t fit anymore with the music or with my current Daemons in my head J , so I change the name to INLINE SEX TERROR.

How would you describe the music of Inline Sex Terror and how do you work on the tracks?

DV/H: Well the 11:11 album was more sick – industrial with a lot horror and EBM old School Elements – tracks that punched hard in the clubs and tracks for people to dance! BUT the new EP “Distorted Life” moves a little different from 11:11 , I will say that I am trying to play old school industrial with the new TBM-dance sound of these days !

Why this change of style?

As musician I am open minded and I like my next material to be better from the previous! So I have to “upgrade” the sound of INLINE SEX TERROR , there are some changes and new elements , but hey it’s still sounds like INLINE SEX TERROR.

Over the years you have worked with different bandmembers, what is the current line-up and how did you find the other bandmembers?

DV/H: Yes it’s true the last 1.5 year I have worked with 5 members, but they were never band members!! It was always a session of musicians, they only played for live shows! I am writing all the music , lyrics ,and I’m also doing all the vocals , but for the live shows I always pick up members with energy and people who are involved and love the scene. The current line up on stage now is: me on vocals , Harry.G on E-Drums and Alex on keyboards.

In august 2008 you have released the album 11:11, how do you look back it now, are you still satisfied with it?

DV/H: Totally! I am satisfied with everything , the production , the layout , the promotion , the positive reviews from the biggest magazines in the scene , and of course I am very happy with the positive feedbacks from the DJ’s in the world. And from the people who send me messages every day at MySpace and telling me how much they like the album!

Soon a new ep wil be released with some new tracks and several remixes, how did you get the impressive list of remixes, was it hard to convince people?

DV/H: Well to get a lot of remixes done when you have a deadline , yes that was the hard part! I don’t think it was so hard to convince them , a lot of the bands who make remixes from my EP , are good friends or we just know each other, and of course I am very happy that people like Johan van Roy (Suicide Commando) and Claus (Leather Strip) do me the honor of remixing one of my songs!

What progression did the band make between 11:11 and now?

DV/H: I will say that we have climbed some levels the last year. A lot of people know the band , the DJ’s are playing IST songs in the clubs. We have played a lot gigs in Europe with very positive feedback from the audience.

You also did a European tour, how did that go?

DV/H: It was a big experience for me, and it’s something that I’m not going to forget for sure! Cause there is no other Greek band, in this scene that has toured in Europe! The tour was great , the gigs a lot fun , the after show party’s were also great. I have met great and nice persons like Beati Mortui and of course DAS ICH, we had the honor to support them in 3 gigs in Germany!

What makes a concert for you a great concert to play?

DV/H: People are making the concerts! So a good concert is when there is positive feedback and interactive communications with the audience!

You will play at the Summer Darkness festival in august in the Netherlands, what can people expect to see?

DV/H: Yes we will play at Summer Darkness festival this year, and I am very excited and looking forward to that! I am counting the days!
New Things! I am working at a totally new concept for the upcoming gigs! Allow me to keep it a secret!!

It seems you are really looking forward to this concert because you made special Summer Darkness remix, where can people hear it?
