Who is Ji-In?

Ji-In is a person who is grateful for the opportunity to put all her emotions and her passion into the music and the performance. Otherwise she would probably lose her mind and make all the people around her crazy (laughs).

Asian names often have a meaning, does Ji-In has a special meaning as well?

Yes it does, but it’s top secret and if you find out I will have to kill you. And in case any of my band mates chooses to tell you I’ll get him as well (laughs).

When and how did you discover you could sing? Are you a trained singer or a natural?

My parents told me I started to sing and act at home in front of the TV set and in public places when I was two years old no matter how many people were around. In elementary school and in church I became a solo singer in a choir and later continued in different bands and musical projects. When I finished school I decided to study classical piano and singing at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. But even then I never
stopped singing in rock bands which was especially hard to swallow for my classical singing teacher.

Did you sing in any other bands before Krypteria?

Yes, I did.I had my own band and we played as many clubs and festivals as possible.

How did it happened that you became the singer of a german metal band?

I met Chris and Kuschi during a studio project in the year of 2003. Right off the bat we connected but it wasn’t until the end of 2004 that we started working together. I was really excited about joining Krypteria because I find it very intriguing to combine seemingly opposite things.

You played in Korea already, is that different than playing in Europe? In what way does it differ?

Absolutely. Expecially because Korea is the country of my family and I have a very emotional relationship to it. All my relatives still live there and their support means very much to me.

Your music has loud and fast parts and more quiet parts, what do you prefer to sing?

I love the variety, just like in life. I like all the different facets of our music. I find it very liberating to start for example with a sad song followed by a fast paced up tempo piece.

Your stageshow seems to be full of energy, what gives you this energy?

Definitely the love of music. Fortunately I have three charismatic and energetic band mates around me. Together we have so much fun on stage. It really feels like we’re on fire !

How do you prepare for a show?

I try to stay in shape both physically and vocally, the rest just comes with the music.

If you could make one wish, what would you wish for?

I wish that everyone would feel responsible for this world we live in. Everybody should respect and care for nature and every creature on this planet.

You always end messages with greeting from Krypteriapolis. If you could build Krypteriapolis, how would it look like?

If I was to build a city named Krypteriapolis I would make sure it is a very vibrant place where all different cultures and people would get along peacefully and treat each other with respect no matter their ethnic background ...and of course there would be free candy for everyone !!! (laughs)

What do you expect from the summer darkness concert?

I expect a great festival atmosphere in which everyone can let go. We will spend an exciting and good time together that hopefully both the audience and us will remember for a long time.

Any last words for the readers?

I hope my answers gave you an idea about Krypteria and I am looking forward to seeing you at the festival, which by the way will be our live debut in the Netherlands, so needless to say we’ll be on fire !
