Who is Maitri?

Maitri is a very lucky person doing something in life she really enjoys and has the opportunity to meet, reach and learn about people  all over the world.

How would you describe your character

I believe in being the best person I can be without harming anybody. I definitely would want Maitri to be my best friend, we would have such a good fun time, never have to worry about trust and wow!, if I just could have some sexy times with another Maitri that would be  ?????????.

You are born in the Netherlands but moved to the USA long time ago, why did you move to the USA?

Yeah i was born  in Rotterdam went to school and had a lot of good times there, Christian Death were living in London when I joined, and I, just without thinking, went everywhere, where Valor and co went, since I joined Christian Death it turned into my life

What are the things you miss from the Netherlands?

The hospitality, you enter a home and they make you feel at home offer you a drink and food.
Off course my family and some food like patat and I love  zoute dropjes, the markets are fun too.
But I don't miss the high rate of crime.

Maitri Christian Death

You joined Christian Death already in 1994, how did this happen?

My mom and her friends liked Christian Death a Lot, I would hear it when they got ready to go out, I didn't pay much attention I was in my own world with my friends and music, and I was already a bass player in a band.  Some of my moms friends were friends with Christian Death and I got to meet them all as well . I went to England hung out with the bass player jammed to christian Death songs with Him, and all was fun until he got deported and could not come back to England, and you can see were It goes from here,      I'm one lucky girl

Since you joined Christian Death it seems the oppression of female sexuality by the church became an important topic for Christian Death, what are your feelings towards this topic?

Sexuality is very important to me I'm a woman with lots of it!

Being in Christian Death and writing songs made me feel responsible for the effect my songs would have on other people. Since joining the band, I became more aware of the effect society and religion played in oppressing women, so naturally I take advantage of the forum of the band.

Being in a band for this long you must have seen several highlights as well as low points, what is a highlight for you personally and what is a low point?

The highpoint for me is that I see myself grow as a musician and that I get to create and be what ever I want to be.
The low points are all the negative ex members and there are many , that have told so many untrue stories. and are influencing the media, people and fans

Your role in Christian Death is bass guitarist and singer, is there any of the 2 you prefer and don’t you have the feeling sometimes that doing both at the same time limits you?

Well that is why we would have a swap going on on stage so I can concentrate on just singing
but I think there is something very sexy about playing the bass and I love the feeling of playing and singing at the same time, I feel very in control,

And remember I get to just sing in  Lover Of Sin.

Maitri

When you play in the Netherlands, is this a special something for you or is it the same as every other country after being away for such a long time?

Not at all, I feel like I'm coming home and feel so loved by everybody I know,
I get to speak dutch on stage and I can't wait to play in Holland again

Christian Death is a band that tours allot, what do you do when such a tour has ended, is it hard to pick up a normal routine?

Yes it is hard for me , it takes me a while to get used to being relaxed being by my self.
Being on the road is very busy, you don't sleep much and party way to much you work very hard,

You recorded many albums with Christian Death already, is there a favorite album for you or not?

At the moment I'm  still very much into the new album American Inquisition,  Sometimes when I have to listen to the older stuff I think damn those are some good songs ,I'm proud off all the albums I'm on, they are all a different time in my life, they all mean something else to me,
I think the whole history of Christian Deaths music is very intense. Every album has something unique and is different from the one before, I like changes and  people don't always like that, they want a band to stay the same, they don't realize we grow as a musician and we would like to go beyond what they expect sometimes.

In the meantime you also formed: Lover of Sin. Can you introduce the band and why did you start it?

At the moment, the members are still changing because the people I want to work with or also in other bands and getting people organized is not always easy so I have to change plans as it goes.

I always liked heavy dark music and I felt that I had to get that out of me but not through Christian Death. That is where Lover of Sin comes in.

Can we consider lover of Sin a side project or are both bands equally important to you?

Lover Of Sin is not a side project but the other band I'm in,

I love Lover Of Sin cause that is my baby,  and I'm still bringing it up, I have a lot of work
with this ahead,  with Christian Death its totally the opposite there is such an amazing history and beautiful catalog and so many amazing fans.
I love working with both bands they are my passion in life.

Christian Death

What is next for you?

Always working on new material  especially new material for Lover of Sin entitled "Horny Beast"
and always playing, next we are going to Australia and New Zealand I'm very excited about that

Any last words for the readers?

I like people to first listen, taste, meet, read, watch, touch, travel, etc.  before they have an opinion. be your own individual don't have others make up your mind for you.

Enjoy the art of life.
