Who is Maleficent Martini?

Miss Martini: Maleficent Marini is a broken ballerina doll with a split personality, she is pure and dirty, sweet and evil.

How did you get that nickname?

Miss Martini: Well people used to say I looked like Maleficent from sleeping beauty since I was young so we thought it would have been an appropriate name.

For the band and martini is my real surname and I love it so wanted to keep it!

How did you and the other members of Maleficent meet?

Miss Martini: I've met Mortimer Cain about 8 years ago, we used to go clubbing in the same places and we became really close friends.

And Dr. Sickx approached us at the end of 2006 as he was interested in working in our band, and we got along straight away. He became a part of the Maleficent family.

How did you come up with the name for the band?

Miss Martini: Maleficent has been my nickname for many years.

Who are you musical influences and how have they influenced the artist you are today?

Miss Martini: Sylvie Guillem and Massimo Moricone gave me inspiration on learning new styles of dancing and listening to Metallica, Nirvana, The Cure,David Bowie,Annie Lennox,System of a Down,Muse etc gave me inspiration to dance to alternative music that , in the end inspired me to form a band and create my own music to dance to.

How does your personal life influence your music and of course how does music influence your personal life?

Miss Martini: Everything I do and I learn makes an impact into my music,I always follow my emotions in everything I do.
And... how is the music effecting my life??? Hmmmm.... well.... It only effects my Love life, as it seems to scare people off hahaha.

London is slowly making a name for itself on the industrial/metal scene. How does it feel to be apart of the London scene?

Miss Martini: It is difficult to make it in the Uk,I Love to be a part of it tho, I love making a new Scene in London.

Any plans to conquer Europe in the future?

Miss Martini: Yes of course we do! we would like to play all over europe, we are just looking for the right venues and promoters that would like to book us.

Where did the idea to incorporate ballet into your performances come from?

Miss Martini: I was a full on BALLERINA for 20 years of my life before I formed Maleficent...

How do you prepare for live shows? Do you have a set routine before performing?

Miss Martini: Every show is different depending on the stage. we practice our songs and If I have enough space to dance I might choreograph something for a contemporary/ballet piece, but, usually I/we love to improvise! It makes it more interesting and exiting.. we never know what to expect.

Maleficent

Why do you feel it's important to have a visual during your performences, as well as a musical one?

Miss Martini: Coz I love performing, If i wanted to be in a normal band, I wouldn't have formed Maleficent in the 1st place. This is me and I wouldn't change it for the world.

What do you think of the term "Bondage Ballerina" to suggest the kind of stage performence you do?

Miss Martini: Well... sometimes we do ballet/bondage suspension with the help of Esinem, We only do it when the stage is big enough or for special occasions, I would like to incorporate some ballet, pole dancing and some ariels into the show. Our shows will always evolve.

On your E.P "Demize" you decided to cover Nick Cave's "Where the wild roses grow", what made you decide to cover this iconic song?

MORTIMER CAIN: We all loved this song from the moment we heard it and when it came time to decide on a cover this one naturaly became the choice as he is one of the best ballad writers and it is full of emotion but at the same time has a sinister side to it which is along the lines of the music we write.

How do you look back on recordings of the album, how did they go?

MORTIMER CAIN: It was a great experience and we cant wait to record our full album probably in a studio but some voice recordings may be done at home again as demize was done.

How are the songs for Maleficent created, is it a bandprocess?

MORTIMER CAIN: Dr Sickx writes the music and myself and maleficent martini write the melodies for our vocals and lyrics.

As a singer you use different kinds of voices, how do you know what to use?

Miss Martini: My split personality tells me what to do.

Maleficent

Is there any band you would love to collaberate with, either live or in the studio?

MORTIMER CAIN: Thats a hard one as there are alot of realy good bands around so i guess we will have to see how we feel when that opertunity arises.

Dr. Sickx: I’d love to work with Angelspit or Ministry or the Prodigy.

Miss Martini: I would love to work with Muse,Aerosmith,Marilyn Manson,Metallica,Placebo and The Prodigy too.

What is in store for Maleficent in the future?

MORTIMER CAIN: more gigs in the UK and Europe and a few more tours.

Dr Sickx: We are working on a new album and on a soft core porn movie.

What is the most valuable thing you have learned in the music business?

Miss Martini: Do everything yourself coz there is no1 out there that would help you and always stick to your own ideas no matter what.

Dr. Sickx: That talent is not enough, you need sheer determination and sell your soul to satan. Also, I learnt that the music business does not have anything to do with art.

Any last words for our readers?

Miss Martini: Thank you for supporting Maleficent! And thank you to the people that came all the way from Germany and Netherlands
just to see some of our shows in London! I am really thankfull.

Dr. Sickx: the music scene is stale, not daring and totally safe. That’s why you have some many old bands, doing reunions and the labels are still pushing the same bands they were pushing 20 years ago. Well, fuck that, pick up your guitars, synths and drums and try to express yourself, try to support new bands or anyone who’s trying to do something original. Let’s bring something dangerous, unsafe and totally not Politically correct, and stick it to the man.
