Can you give a brief introduction to Mordacious?

Mordacious is the one man EBM act of Mordacious Mortem from California with 2 releases on Telegrammetry Recordings; “This Emptiness” and “Torture tactics”. The new release “Necrolust” was self released due to label issues and impatience on my part.

You started in 2005 with Mordacious, what were you dreams back then and do you feel you have achieved them?

My dream back then, and still is, to make music that people enjoy. I don’t care about money or fame, I am just glad enough people support me to continue to do what I love. It’s just getting better and better.

So far you have released three albums, This emptiness, torture tactics and now “Necrolust”, what is the biggest progress you made when you listen to the albums?

My biggest progress has been my production and sound quality. I have gotten a lot of new gear, built a new recording computer and have been progressing quickly since. “Necrolust” is by far my best achievement, but I already have new recorded material that will be hitting a few compilations in the next few months that will show how much more I have progressed since “Necrolust”.

How did the recordings of the new album go?

Well when I started recording “Necrolust” I had started a new job, and I was working 16 hour days and commuting, from 02:30am to 10:00pm.
So in what little time I had to record I was crammed into this small bedroom with all my gear, and belongings with hardly any room to move because I had to relocate for the job, far away from friends and familiar places.

I would be in the corner sitting on the floor with my computer on an upside down clothing basket working on music until I fell asleep.  The people I stayed with complained about my music being to loud a lot, but I couldn’t let it stop me.  About 12 songs from “Necrolust” were recorded when I was there, and you can hear it in the anger and anguish in the songs because I hated it there so much and the job. But I had bills to pay and couldn’t just quit.

After a year of living there I got a promotion an was able to move back home and have a recording studio room to myself, which I recorded songs like “toxic” and “aggronation” and I can play it loud! So my music has just been progressing since I can record in an environment of my choosing.

You released Necrolust by yourself, why a self released album? How will you manage the promo and distribution?

Originally “Necrolust” was to be released on BLC, but after long delays and hang ups to the eventual shut down of BLC, 8 months had passed since the cd was completed.

I had many other label offers but I didn’t want to wait 3 more months to release the cd. So I paid to have it pressed, and have been promoting it myself with release parties, shows and radio promotion.

Labels like DSBP and Welt Music went out of their way to help me distribute and promote the cd to radio stations, clubs and magazines.

The track “I will break you” is cooperation with Robert Dope. How did you get in contact with him and how is this track created?

Robert Dope and I have known each other for a few years, and we had collaborated before on his last release.  I did Guest lyrics and vocals on 6 songs.

We had talked about a track for my new cd so he sent me a midi file and I ran with it and produced the song from it, added the vocals and samples as well.

Robert and I work very well together when it comes to music and supporting each other in all that we do.

The opening track of the album “We do” has guest lyrics by Valentina Pinto of Anxiety Disorder, how was this arranged?

When I made the song “we do” I sent it to valentina to try and record her vocals, but in the end I didn’t think the vocals worked for the song, but she had written some good lyrics, so I changed them around and added to them to fit the song.

You placed a remix of Cybergirl on the album, why did you make a remix of it?

I redid “cybergirl” because I was asked to do a special remix for the interbreeding compilation. They loved it and it wound up on “Necrolust” as well.

How are the comments on the album so far?

The comments have been amazing, things like they love every song on the cd, to connecting to the song on an emotional level. The club response has been huge and radio response, it is getting a lot of airplay. There have been so many great comments and it just drives me to keep going.

You are currently booking live shows, what is the hardest thing for Mordacious to get live shows?

We have booked and played a lot of shows. We have had so many offers to play all over but the hardest thing has been me being able to take time off work to do it. My new employers are very willing to work with me though so I will be setting up tours for out of the country shows, and just playing weekend shows in the states for now.

Mordacious

You will play with Grendel and Modulate, sounds like a great line up don’t you think?

Yes it will be an awesome show and great exposure for us. We were very pleased to be asked to open for them, and hope to land more shows for bigger acts.

How important is the visual side of Mordacious, I don’t have the feeling people will see you onstage wearing t shirt and jeans?

To me appearance means a lot on stage, and I make my own clothing so I can wear whatever I want. I don’t like to see bands in shirts and jeans, but its personal preference I guess.

How can people purchase the album?
