Interview in Spanish

Can you give a brief introduction to Psyborg Corp?

Hello everyone! Psyborg Corp. is an Industrial/EBM band influenced by Cyberpunk, Sci-Fi and videogames. We’ve been playing since June 2008.

Who are the members of Psyborg Corp?  Did the play in other bands before Psyborg Corp?

Our Line-up consists of Miss Pixel (Bass), UserX86 (Guitars) and p5YbORG! (Vocals, Sampling & Programming).  We’ve played in other bands before, mainly industrial, rock and metal projects.

Psyborg Corp has a cyberpunk atmosphere, what is cyberpunk in your eyes and what inspires you in cyberpunk?

For me, cyberpunk is a way to see the future based on current events, also it would be the way we are going to deal with that hypothetical future, and it could be being some technological geek rebel hiding in a basement or being an all powerful totalitarian dictator. I like to see the whole picture from different perspectives, and this is how it inspires me… Cyberpunk art has a lot of angles to offer, therefore a lot of imagination and a lot of elements to work on.

How do you translate all the cyberpunk influences into the concept of Psyborg Corp?

It’s a big mix of everything inside the cyberpunk… I like to think in a parallel universe of the “What if…” and write about it trying to focus it into our musical/visual purposes.

The visual side is very strong, do you create all these things yourself. Isn’t it a struggle to wear it during live shows?

Yes, we like to put some work on the visual part of the band, we like to suggest and discuss the clothing and the accessories we would like to wear, what would be cool and that kind of stuff… Sometimes it is hard to wear it on the shows! , since you are playing, moving, jumping, you might find troubles with it.

We try to do regular updates to our clothing; if we find something that really bothers us during a performance (e.g. p5YbORG’s helmet) we try to fix it in order to make it easier for us to wear it during the shows.

You did some live shows already, how did they go, how did the audience react on your show?

It has been great so far. The local scene has been great to us and we’ve had some crazy shows in this past six months! We expect to play a lot more this year and try to play outside the city as well, we’ll see what happens.

Your music is a combination of a broad range of electronic influences, how do you melt them together in a Psyborg Corp track? How do you create the tracks, is it a solo process or a group process?

I’d say it’s a solo process but ends as a group’s process… I work on the songs at home, I compose them and then take them to the rehearsal room where we assemble all the instruments and see how it works, then we suggest what could we change about the songs and what sounds definitely good.

You are now working on your debut album:  The Mechanical Renaissance, can you explain the title and what can you say about the album already?

The Mechanical Renaissance concept is based on some Transhumanist ideas mixed with Cyberpunk and other Sci-Fi elements… It describes the falling of the human era as we know it and its revival and rising in a hypothetical future… Like once the Renaissance back in the 17th century is now known as a step of humanity towards the modern era, the Mechanical Renaissance is a new step towards a super advanced age, based of course in a highly advanced technology and its consequences.

The album will be definitely conceptual, based in apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic scenarios, exploring themes such as totalitarian governments/mechanic dictators, genetic manipulation, nanotechnology, biotechnology, A.I., extraterrestrial life forms, climate manipulation, pro-transhumanistic visions, amongst others… Is gonna be great, I’m very happy with what we have so far, there’re a lot of new ideas on the way too!

What can you say about today’s South American electro scene, it seems many more bands are surfacing, and not only Mexican ones?

Yes, totally agree! Nowadays we see a lot of awesome rising bands not only from México, but from other Latin American countries, mostly from Chile, Peru, Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia of course… we are young scenes with young talent looking forward to grow strong.

In what way does the South American scene differ from the European scene in your mind?

That’s a difficult question, since most of our biggest influences come from Europe, not only from music, but also aesthetically speaking. I think that the scene here differs on the character of our people; I think we have different kinds of energy.  Latin-American people tend to be really explosive especially on the shows.
