Who is SarahJane?
Good question, I am a performer/singer, a Mother, a wife and a lover!!! I do so many things that I don’t know who I am sometimes! I wear my heart on my sleeve and air my emotions far too publicly.
Is it hard to change these roles, especially coming home after some concerts?
As soon as I see the children I am Mum again, and I love every minute of it. Sometimes I will be getting changed in the toilets of a venue and think what am I doing here, I just want to be home!!
To what music did you listen as a kid, to what music do you listen these days?
I was a big Duran Duran fan and loved all the New Romantic stuff, also a bit of a rocker at heart and loved glam rock. Today I am more into electro music, I am currently listening to Pride and Fall, Adsurd Minds, Angels and Agony and Solar Fake.
You started singing at a young age, when and why did you know that you wanted to become a singer?
My Singer teacher called me from my Maths lesson to have a word with me and I thought I had done something wrong! She sat me down and said you must do something with your voice, be it acting or singing. I have always sung in bands and my day jobs involve my voice from broadcasting on the radio to telephone interviews I do at the local Newspaper.
How did you make your first steps into singing after this and what do you remember of that?
I answered an ad in the music paper Melody Maker and joined a Management agency in London and was picked up by a dance label, I moved to Cumbria and met my ex husband and went head first into the Gothic Scene. So pleased I did!

I was and still am a big Madonna fan and I loved Toyah, Kate Bush and Hazel O’Conner. Singers who could sing but had a bit something extra about them.
What is the extra they have in your opinion, what makes a singer a good singer and do you have those qualities as well, what things do you think you need to learn?
I need to except compliments, people say what a good performance I have done but I take a lot of convincing!!
I like performers with that bit extra, people who don’t go on stage and just sing but those who give a bit of personally to the performance and show a bit of individuality.
When you started singing you must have had dreams, an idea how it would be like, you are further in time now, were your ideas you had that time correct or was being a singer for real different?
I thought I would have had a bit more commercial success, as a kid you want to be in the charts, but the reality is it is all very hard work and it doesn’t always happen.
I have always wanted a band behind me, and this at time has been difficult, though I think finally I have sussed it and have a permanent line up at last!!
You have done some shows on your own and some with the band, what do you prefer and why?
I do prefer having the band as it gives me more confindence of stage to have people around me. I can cut it on my own though and sometimes the songs sound better without the extras, but I do like the band with me!
From 1990 untill 2000 you were singing in Faithfull Dawn, what do you remember of those days and why did the band quit?
They were such fun, but again hard work, We were really big in the Uk and reached the top of the Goth Tree Status, we played with some big bands, Clan of Xymox, Apoptygma, Spear of Destiny, Spahn Ranch, it was all good fun.
The band split when my ex husband and I split up, he was in the band and it was difficult for it to continue. Even before our separation, things were going a bit down hill and I started a new project, Scanda, which was a lot heavier, hopefully I’ll upload some of the Scanda tracks to the my space page soon.

After the Faithfull Dawn period you started Novus.uk with Jonathan Sharp, how did you guys meet and how do you work together?
He had done some remixes for us in the past and lives in the same county as us. He had an album worth of ideas but needed some lyrics and tunes, and that was the beginning of Novus Uk!
Is Jonathan still part of Novus. uk. or not, he did the music for the album Redesigning the future” but never wanted to play live?
He never wanted to go out live which was cool, he will be helping with the second album though, as he has such a good sound and it is Novus Uk’s trademark sound now.
You have a complete line-up now for Novus, will they contribute for the album as well?
The album will be co written with me and Jonathan Sharp as he has the unique Novus sound, then the guitars can be put on by Peter etc etc.
The album has songs that are not written recently, why didn’t you come up with new songs on the album?
The album was done a while ago and a German Label were going to take it on. That never happened and it sat shelved for a while. The songs are still fresh though and it was still contempory to put the album out. The second album will be a lot more emotional and there will be a lot less instrumentals too!

If you could “Redesign the future” how would it look like?
I would have no child abuse and every child in the world would be healthy and have food and water, I can’t stand people who are cruel to children as I am sure everyone else does too.
I would like a world where people would be more grateful for what people do and to think about what they say before hurting others.
Whats the current line up of Novus.uk?
There’s me! Peter on guitars, Ben on drums and Crimson who angle grinds in some tracks creating pretty sparks! There is also a female keyboardist in the wings to waiting for her debut performance!
You are playing many concerts at the moment, what is the secret of getting that many concerts, can you pick a concert that was special for you or is every concert something special?
Stephen of Rebco, is a master at getting gigs and works very hard to secure them. We love playing Europe and this year I haven’t played one UK gig yet!
I loved playing Tilburg, Little Devil Venue as that was a great party atmosphere, also the K17 in Berlin was a big achievement and a huge success, in the Uk our best gig to date was supporting The Birthday Massacre in Manchester.
In the past you modelled as well, would you like to pick that up oneday and how would the ultimate photoshoot for you look like?
I am modelling at the weekend spookily, obviously I would like to be a lot younger though with the alternative scene it doesn’t matter too much about age.
My ultimate shoot would be with a lot of props, a bit Dita Von Teese, with some glamourous but tasteful shots. Or in the woods with no clothes on hiding behind trees, lol!!!
We know you are a very spiritual type as well, if you had more time, what would you like to do in that field?
I read Tarot cards though I haven’t done anyones in a while. I also have a huge collection of crystals and really believe in their powers. I am verging on the Pagan I suppose with a love for nature and the what goes around comes around.

What is the ultimate motorbike for you and why?
I would love a Virago 535 or a Suzuki Bandit, they are powerful and sexy bikes, I wouldn’t say no to a V Max either!! Think that might be too much of a beast for me though!!!
Any last words for the readers?
Love life, love your friends and love your family, don’t take life too seriously and try to enjoy every moment for what it is rather than moving onto the next one so quickly!
Thank you so much for the interview, you and An are great people and I feel blessed to have met you both.xx
