Spectra Paris*

The album “dead models society” is out now for awhile, if you look back at the recordings, how did they go?

ELENA – Despite of the fact the album is out since just a few months, I already notice some differences between my today’s way to working in the studio and yesterday’s. However, even though I partly changed my mind as far as recording in general is concerned… I feel proud of where I’ve been taking this album to or, better to say… where the album took me to. In fact, song after song I’ve been entering a new viewpoint, which looks a little far from certain solutions I’d have chosen time ago. The ‘Dead Models Society’ is swallowing me up by whirlpools made of luxury and Hitchcock-like stories of mournings and crimes.

The album turned out to be quite successful, did you expected this or was it a big surprise for you?

ELENA – I worked hard to start this project up in the best way, but I must admit that forecasting how the audience would have reacted to it, well, it was just a deep mystery to me, in the very beginning. And, although in a sense I didn’t want to give up my way-to-working (not being often much accomodating to certain stereotypes expected by many), I feel now gratified as such ideas didn’t hurt listeners’ taste: on the contrary, it looks that many reviewers - but the audience most of all - have assimilate with pleasure the sarcastic/noir side all wrapped in a glam-rock “patina” coming out from this debut album.

Is it hard to be the sole leader of a band compared to the situation with Kirlian Camera in which you are co-leader?

ELENA – Well, it’s just a totally different story! In the very beginning everything seems almost terrifying, as you’re experiencing kinda “responsibility massive burden”. Then you’re going to look around yourself and… the Angelo is not there any longer! In spite of this, being “the first pilot” as far as every decision is concerned, turns out to be kind of a stirring deal, then you feel a certain pride, once you finally can tell your gang that everything is running really good.

You are now being booked for almost every big festival, how do you prepare for those major concerts?

ELENA – No better chance but these big festivals, in order to launch my all female band, which is set up by talented musicians, turning out to be pleasantly funny and well-matched friends! So, we’ll do the very best to bring big energy and fun on stage, not forgetting a important and clear open-minded attitude, possibly being able to make people feel many-coloured orientations in a non-chaotic way. We’re just at work in order to make this wish come true in the best way, as I perceive powerful big force and harmony, in this band. Technical work turned out to be the easier thing to face, due to the fact I have to do with young but expert persons, whom never are forgetting a certain “punky” attitude, though, so… no brainless dummies or radiocontrolled session-(wo)men at all, fortunately, but a “tigerish” band, instead! The main point, at the moment, is just that we must succeed in showing on stage the concept line on which the whole project is based on.

What can people expect from a Spectra Paris show?

ELENA – The show is mostly based on the album main themes, therefore listeners should get wrapped in a glamour-noir cloud reminding of murder stories and haute-couture/fashion catwalks. We’re using a video made on purpose for such an occasion, where one may find particular combinations and plots, just useful keys to get to the heart of this macabre but even fascinating imagery, whose appearance is made of faboulous size zero models smiling with perfect teeth. Kind of fight between wordly fashionable entities and blood…

Any words for the people who will visit your show at the summer darkness festival?

ELENA – Simply, we are waiting for those people armed with both healthy sense of humour and machine-guns to be used against those whom have no respect for the others! 2 necessary weapons, indeed…
