Can you give us a brief history update on Steinkind for the people who don’t know you?
Are there still people who don´t know us??? - joking - Steinkind as a band was founded in early 2006 by its members Sàndor F and Phil J. We first met each other in 2005 while sitting in remand. This happend because we both were involved on an illegal Electro-Party which ended up in a fight... Each of us had a lot of musical experiences in different
projects and bands but it has never been very satisfying. That`s why we decided to start meeting once in a while, drinking,
talking, singing and abusing synthesizers. Steinkind was born and it grows up very well!
Before the Maxi-Sinlge-CD release "Deutschland brennt" on Vail Records Steinkind was already known to insiders, how
did you realise this?
It didn`t take us a long time, creating first ideas for Steinkind-Songs. This fact made us proud enough to produce a
nonofficial Promo-EP (“Kind in Scherben”) with the first rough STEINKIND-Demosongs and some Remixes made
by other local artists. The production of the 500 piecies was finished one week before last years WGT.
Perfect timing! So we could give them to a lot of different Clubs and of course DJs from all over the world during
the WGT 2006. But the most important thing wasn`t the CD itself, it was the reaction on it! You could hear the
rough-version of "Deutschland brennt" from that weekend on in nearly every location of Leipzig... Knowing that
obviously our music couldn’t be the worst we made Steinkind fit for the internet in June 2006. We ordered a
domain (www.steinkind.com) and became a member of myspace. Especially online-Radios, Recordlabels and
more DJs get interested in our music and ordered the Promo-EP...That`s how it all started without any official release.
How important is the internet for Steinkind?
As you can see within the last answer, the internet has been and still is very important for Steinkind. And with every day it becomes more important. The whole world of media is changing. A lot of people always talk about the disadvantages
of the internet - illegal downloads, license robbery and so on. Without a doubt they are right, but they should never forget
the advantages it brings... Especially for newcomers... How else could you represent a product to the whole world within
a few hours for a low price? How else could you communicate and transfer to different people from everywhere?
We wouldn´t have any booking-request without the internet, giving you an example…
All your lyrics are in german, is there a special reason for this?
Sure - That`s our native language. German is a very complicate language - that makes it so beautiful to us and of course
to many foreign people as well! In addition it`s the only way for us to describe directly what we think and want, without any misunderstandings, without any damn need of searching for the right translation... It´s the only way for us to be reliably and
honest. We hate this stupid english dictionary-lyrics without any soul. Some Germans might describe our lyrics as
provocative and unimaginatively. We describe them as true and honestly.
I would describe your music as EBM with a punkrock attitude. Do you think this desciption fits you?
We are no fans of the “genre-searching-game”... For us it`s not only EBM and Punk. Our music is electronic, synthetic.
Our lyrics are direct and hard. We produce danceable songs with a classic Pop-structure. Sometimes these songs seem
to be simple next time very confused... Sometimes it`s about Love and Anger next time about sex, fun and beer. But
there is always the same Steinkind-Style in it. It´s Techno, Rock, EBM, Punk, Hardstyle, Pop... A bit of everything...
Maybe it´s a mixture of Scooter, Rammstein & Die Toten Hosen... Call it how you want, it will always be Steinkind it will
always be "Vom Hier im Jetzt"... Electrock`n Roll!
On your website you are searching for members of the streetteam “to heal the world” What needs to be done according
you to make this world a better place?
"Healing the world" was a bit fun. A lot of bands try to be soooooooo revolting and act as they could really make this world
a better place only by singing from judgement, war or environment, using distortion and arpeggiators... Don`t get me wrong.
Their music would be ok, if they just wouldn`t act and talk that godlike... We can`t change this world. Our music is just the
only possible way for us to deal with this fact and maybe it has or will have the same effect to other people... That would
be enough healing…
You did a secret WGT concert at a gas station, was this planned or spontaneously? What were the reactions on this?
It was planned a few weeks before, because the line-up of the WGT 2007 has already been full... The realizing was
spontaneously. Our record-label organized a little truck and a mobile energy generator. Together with our friend Canay
we rent an impressive PA and went to the main entrance of the WGT. The only free place was the gas station in front of it...
Shortly before starting we send out Emails and SMS to some friends... At the beginning there were about 100 visitors but
then came more and more people from song to song. This was an historical event with an incredible atmosphere... At
the end the police made this gig perfect with their stopping of the show...thanks to all who have been there!
How are the responses on the album so far?
I won`t tell you about any sales but for a debut-album of an nearly unknown band the responses are more than good.
Some medias still try to ignore us or try to represent our stuff as embarrassingly but Steinkind doesn`t care. Steinkind
is real and different, Steinkind is an option and that`s what cares today. People on concerts leave as hypnotized fans
after listening to us the first time. People in clubs scream along "Bitte, bitte!" or "Volk auf`s Maul!" These are the
responses we need and these are the responses we will take care on in the future!
What can people expect from the Steinkind concert at summer darkness?
No Dracula-Make-up, no choreographics, no fullplayback, no art blood. Just two crazy but lovely guys, performing
their smashing songs while sweating out their emotions.
A bit puristical and old school but pure and electronic madness for sure! Big time!
