Can you introduce Zodiac to our readers?

Well, in short, Zodiac is the outlet we’ve decided to use to vent out all the day to day bullshit that we all have to endure. It’s really quite therapeutic.We are a three member band James on vocals Mike lead programmer , samantha back ground vocals that comes from Toronto, Ontario

How would you describe the sound of Zodiac?

Zodiac is a hard edged band with no real creative restrictions. Trashy distorted drums under lays brain rupturing bass, mixed with aggressive synth. Symphonic overtones give body and structure, while heavy grinding guitar rips through the track. Finally, dark and twisted vocals give the music a touch of nightmare and fantasy.

Before Zodiac you were playing in Stasis and The Trinity Project, why did you leave those bands and start Zodiac?

The trinity project was the first project James and Mike with a fellow friend of theirs, jabroni. The music more focused on a synth pop / trance style, so, Stasis was created by Mike and James that ran a complete industrial style. The reason for leaving the band ...personal matters that had to be addressed. From the delay, we agreed to stop both projects, returning at a later time with a project that we now call Zodiac.

No, it has no relation to the zodiac killer.. The purpose of being called Zodiac is based off the zodiac wheel, how each symbol ties into each other, its very much like our music and how our style goes.

You started early 2007 and already have a huge group of followers, did you expect this when you started Zodiac and what did you do to get such a big fanbase?

No we did not expect it at all but do love the response our fans give us ! We are very friendly with our fans, interacting with them on a daily basis. We feel this shows them how important to us they really are, it’s great fun doing it. Plus, getting day to day feedback has helped us stay in touch with what they really want, and in doing that, We hope to fight to the top 

Your music is a mixture of different styles, what are the musical influences of each member?

- James -  Psyclon Nine. Project Pitchfork, Skinny Puppy, Hocico, Icon of Coil.
- Mike - Project Pitchfork, Strapping Young Ladd, Dimmu Borgir , F.L.A.
- Samantha – Evanessence, Jefferson Airplane, Delirum, Depeche Mode.Janis Joplin

What are influences for Zodiac, besides other bands?

Personal life has a huge influence in Zodiac. What we see and experience everyday in t.v., media, and other people is the sum of it. We draw inspiration, usually anger or loss, from the day to day bullshit that is fed to us via these facets. Left to linger in it, our emotions on the subjects brew and fester until it explodes out of us into our music.

Thats like asking for the Caramilk secret .LOL

Having such a diverse sound is always dangerous, you can either attract a large crowd or nobody likes it, what makes you a band that is in the first category?

Its because we sound like no one else that we know of and each song we do sounds different. We make sure that it is as professional sounding as possible, we’re careful to never go too obscure and that seems to be going well for us. Plus, as already said, our interaction with the fans is a big help as they never know what to expect next out of us..

You are really fast in creating new songs, what’s the secret?

Again, the Caramilk secret, lol... To be honest the programmer has attention deficit disorder (A.D.D.) and if he doesn't work fast on the blue print he will forget it and the idea will be lost . Just kidding! Seriously though, we are very passionate about what we create. As a group that passion is shared, we act as fuel for eachother. So, once we put the pen to the paper (so-to-speak), it just keeps flowing out until we are done.

How important is the visual part of Zodiac and what are you trying to create with the visuals?

Our visuals are a twisted mirror of the subjects we cover in our songs. It is an expression of how the world can see something while being so blind. Our visuals help them to open their eyes to the big picture. There is beauty in everything, but in our society, we only revere something beautiful if society deems it to be, this is something we hope to change.

Zodiac will be hitting the stage very soon as we are now fully prepared. As for what to expect, no two shows will ever be the same, that is for sure.

I always have the feeling we can expect an album soon, what are the updates on that?

Our feeling towards an album is we push hard to strive forward and every time we create new tracks we feel the older ones are not to par with the newer. This leaves us in a state where we feel we need newer, hotter stuff before putting together our first “album”. Rest assured, an album will be released soon.
